Midnight Sun is a 2018 American romantic drama film based on the Japanese film A Song to the Sun, which was released in 2006. The film stars Bella Thorne, Patrick Schwarzenegger, and Rob Riggle and was directed by Scott Speer and written by Eric Kirsten.
The plot revolves around a teen girl who suffers from the disease xeroderma pigmentosum, which prevents her from going outside in the sun. When she meets a boy, she is torn between telling him about her condition and pretending to live a regular life. On October 12, 2015, principal photography began in Vancouver. On March 23, 2018, the film was released in the United States.
Midnight Sun grossed $9.6 million in the US and Canada and $17.8 million in other markets, for a total worldwide gross of $27.4 million.
Midnight Sun was released in the United States with Pacific Rim: Uprising, Sherlock Gnomes, Unsane, and Paul, Apostle of Christ, and was expected to gross roughly $5 million in its first weekend from 2,173 theatres.
