What Happened to Nakia?
In Wakanda Forever, Nakia says that she quit her job because she couldn’t stand being in the country while the King was gone. Because T’Challa was not only her ruler and brother at arms but also her lover. When their King died twice, the whole country was sad. But Nakia was sad because she had lost the man she loved.
During her time away, Nakia ran a school in Haiti. She helped shape a new generation by teaching them to be kind and to be able to take care of themselves. Nakia seems very happy in Haiti, and her work there couldn’t be more important. So, Nakia found a way to keep spreading T’Challa’s hope for the future to the rest of the world by leaving Wakanda.
She couldn’t do that, though, because she was still a War Dog for Wakanda. That sounds like a good reason for what happened to Nakia after Black Panther. But the scene at the end of Wakanda Forever tells us more about Nakia’s situation.
Why Did Nakia Quit Wakanda?
In the scene after the credits roll in Wakanda Forever, we meet Toussaint, who is Nakia and T’Challa’s son. Nakia tells Shuri (Letitia Wright) that T’Challa and Nakia decided to raise Toussaint far from Wakanda so that he could grow up knowing what the world is like without the protection of the African nation.

Nakia also talks about how T’Challa told her and their son that he was dying, which helped them get ready for the death of the King. Nakia and Toussaint even held a funeral for T’Challa by themselves.
Nakia had to be in the early stages of her pregnancy so that she wouldn’t be noticed when she left Wakanda. And because Thanos’s Snap kept T’Challa away for five years, Toussaint was born before Avengers: Infinity War. Since Nakia was already pregnant, it makes sense that she didn’t join the fight against Thanos.
That tells us not only what happened to Nakia since Black Panther, but also where Wakanda Forever fits in the MCU timeline. Lastly, Toussaint’s Wakandan name is also T’Challa, which means that the boy is destined to grow up and become the Black Panther in the future. This will keep Boseman’s legacy alive in the MCU.
