After almost three years, Netflix has finally announced the release date for Season 2 of its South Korean horror series “Squid Game.” The new season is set to premiere on Thursday, December 26.
Season 2 Overview:
- Setting: Three years after the events of Season 1, the new season will follow Player 456 as they try to find the people behind the deadly games and “put an end to their vicious sport.”
- Plot: According to the official synopsis, “Using his fortune to fund his search, Gi-hun starts with the most obvious of places: look for the man in a sharp suit playing ddakji in the subway. But when his efforts finally yield results, the path toward taking down the organization proves to be deadlier than he imagined: to end the game, he needs to re-enter it.”

Director’s Note:
Series director, writer, and executive producer Hwang Dong-hyuk expressed his excitement in a letter to “Squid Game” fans, promising to deliver another thrilling season. “I am thrilled to see the seed that was planted in creating a new Squid Game grow and bear fruit through the end of this story,” Hwang wrote. “We’ll do our best to make sure we bring you yet another thrill ride. I hope you’re excited for what’s to come.”
Release and Episodes:
Netflix has not yet specified the number of episodes for Season 2 or if the season will be released in two parts, as has been done with other popular shows like “Bridgerton,” “Emily in Paris,” and “Cobra Kai.” The first season of “Squid Game” had nine episodes.
